PCs, laptop shipments grew record-breaking numbers in Q3 2020

Canalys has released its Q3 2020 report on PC worldwide shipments, and the results are record-breaking given the current circumstances.

The report noted that PCs and laptops surged in terms of shipments worldwide, posting a 13% increase. This increase broke 10-year old records, the last surge in PC sales was in 2010. A major that Canalys sees through is the rise in demand for PC products as many schools and workplaces transition to work- or study-from-home setups amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Lenovo is still the top PC brand worldwide, in terms of shipments market share, according to the data sent to us. They were able to increase their shipments to meet consumer demands around the globe. They are being followed by HP, with 23.6% of the market share. Both brands grew by almost 12% from the same period last year.

Following the top two is Dell, which shares fell flat compared to last year. Apple and Acer round up the top five with two-digit growth percentages. Other laptop brands make up the rest of the report, the breakdown of which is undisclosed.

The report includes PC and laptops in all shapes and forms, including Chromebooks as a sub-set of notebooks. Tablet devices, slate and detachable, are not included.
