We’ve learned that Cherry Prepaid will end its mobile services in around a month’s time. Yes, Cherry’s own MNVO will cease its operations in March 2023.
In a message sent to all current subscribers in the past week, Cherry Prepaid will cease operations in March 17, 2023. No reason was publicly announced for the surprising announcement, but speaking with media friends from Unbox and industry sources close to the company said that the company is shifting priorities to other core business, such as its current home ecosystem offers.
Cherry Prepaid launched as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator under a partnership with Globe Telecom in November 2015. Under the agreement, Cherry operated its MNVO under Globe’s frequencies, which made it more accessible to prepaid credit loading features anywhere in the country. They offered competitive prepaid promos, bundled it to existing and upcoming Cherry Mobile phones, and hired high-profile celebrities endorsing the mobile brand as an alternative option to the then existing Globe-Smart telco duopoly.
Current Cherry Prepaid users are hereby advised to use the Mobile Network Portability feature to switch to another network (the brand recommends Globe Telecom) and complete the process on or before March 16, 2023 to avoid inconvenience.
