Interest in cryptocurrency is rising in the Philippines, but many Filipinos still hesitate to invest due to uncertainty and lack of proper guidance. To help first-time users take a safer and more informed step, GCash has introduced A Beginner’s Guide to Cryptocurrency — a free in-app learning feature under GCrypto that explains crypto through real-life financial experiences.

Why it Matters: As more Filipinos show interest in digital assets, there is a growing need for practical education that avoids technical jargon and supports responsible investing.
The guide was written and illustrated by Luis Buenaventura, Head of GCrypto and a known figure in the local crypto industry. It uses a narrative approach to explain concepts such as inflation, Bitcoin, volatility, wallets, and risk through familiar situations like budgeting and saving. Buenaventura said that storytelling helps users connect financial topics to everyday decisions, making crypto easier to understand.
The material is divided into eight chapters. It begins by explaining why cryptocurrency was developed, linking it to economic challenges such as inflation and declining purchasing power. It then outlines how Bitcoin grew, why its value fluctuates, and why crypto should be treated as a complement to existing savings and investments.

Other sections cover practical tools and mindset. It introduces wallet apps, satoshis, trading basics, and other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, Solana, stablecoins, and memecoins. It also covers topics like discipline, patience, doubt, long-term thinking, and how crypto should still serve real-life goals such as family needs and financial security.
The guide is accessible through GCrypto, a secure crypto marketplace within the GCash app. Users only need a fully verified GCash account to start, with an investment entry point as low as PHP 200. The platform includes vetted cryptocurrencies reviewed by security specialists and supports conversion between pesos and crypto, as well as blockchain transfers for sending and receiving funds.
To access the guide, users can open the GCash app, tap Grow, and select GCrypto.
