Globe Telecom (Globe) bags Ookla’s Best 5G Video Experience Award in the Philippines. The Video Awards was launched early this year based on the local mobile network’s performance in 2021 Q3 and Q4.
“This award shows the superior quality of experience for Globe’s 5G customers as we continue to build 5G where it matters. We are excited to harness the full potential of 5G. We believe that it will open many new opportunities to consumers, businesses, and the country as a whole as the technology matures,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President, and CEO.
To compute the video score, Ookla weighed the sum of multiple video metrics. This includes the proportion of tests that failed to start, time to load the first frame of video playback, quality of video loaded, the proportion of users who experienced at least one stall in video loading or playback, and the rebuffering ratio of users who experienced a stall.
At present, 5G connectivity is best known for providing higher-quality streaming and better video streaming delivery thanks to its faster connectivity speeds, ultra-low latency, and greater bandwidth.
As of end-2021, Globe 5G is present in over 2,000 outdoor and in-building locations nationwide, and has a 96% outdoor coverage in the National Capital Region. While 84% of its 5G connections are present in key cities in Visayas and Mindanao. This year, Globe commits to expanding its 5G footprint across the country.
