Global smartphone brand OPPO unveils its 2021 sustainability report in line with its upcoming event at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022 in Barcelona, Spain. The report highlights its achievements in integrating sustainability and eco-friendly concepts into its products.
Its mission “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World” makes the brand committed to implementing the “3R+1D” sustainable packaging principles. This results in reducing the weight and using recyclable, biodegradable materials in their packaging.
OPPO has started this initiative in the European market in 2021 wherein they have reduced the amount of packaging used for its smartphones by 24% and approximately 45% of the packaging was made using recycled fiber, and the overall plastic used in packaging of its smartphone products has been reduced by 95% since 2019.
To increase product durability, OPPO has introduced a self-developed Battery Health Engine to increase the lifespan of its batteries. With this, the battery is able to maintain 80% of its capacity after up to 1600 charging-discharging cycles.
Trade-in services in domestic and international markets have also been established to promote the recycling and reuse of mobile phones. In China alone, more than 1.2 million phones have been recycled through the scheme which equates to more than 216 tons in electronic waste.
In addition, OPPO has partnered with National Geographic for two consecutive years to support the protection of endangered species through the OPPO Endangered Color Campaign. They were also one of the first brands to join the Eco Rating Labeling Scheme which was initiated by leading European mobile operators to evaluate the environmental performance of mobile phones in five key areas: durability, repairability, recyclability, and climate efficiency.
On the other hand, OPPO has also contributed to sustainable development that focuses on key areas such as digital inclusion, health and well-being, and youth empowerment. To name a few, these include the Color Vision Enhancement feature which offers 766 display profiles and provides personalized solutions for those who are visually impaired; and its Renovators Emerging Artists Project which aims to encourage young creatives to imagine how art and technology will intertwine in the future.
With the theme “Shape the Future”, OPPO will showcase at the MWC 2022 its innovative mobile technologies, latest achievements in AR and 5G, and success stories in sustainability. This can also be viewed online via OPPO’s official YouTube channel.
