Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) leads in Opensignal’s first 5G Experience Report for the Philippines which covers the period of July 1, 2021, to September 28, 2021.

The report shows that Smart leads in the following categories: 5G Availability, 5G Download Speed, 5G Upload Speed, 5G Video Experience, 5G Games Experience, and a joint winner in 5G Reach, and 5G Voice App Experience.

The mobile carrier got a score of 11.9% on the 5G Availability category which translates to Smart 5G users spending 11.9% in an active 5G connection, 3.5% higher than Globe’s 8.4% score. On the other hand, Smart got 178.1 Mbps on the 5G Download Speed category, 78% faster than Globe’s 100.1 Mbps. Furthermore, Smart got 18.4 Mbps, 72.7% faster than Globe’s 10.7 Mbps on the 5G Upload Speed.

In the 5G Video Experience category based on a 100-point scale, Smart scored 77.9 points which are higher than Globe’s score of 75.7 points. This translates to a consistent experience in video streaming with fast load times across users and streaming services. Moreover, Smart’s 5G Games Experience got 71.9 points which are 9% higher than Globe’s 66 points.

Meanwhile, Smart statistically tied with Globe on the 5G Reach category with a score of 3.7 points versus 3.5 points of Globe. This measures the user’s experience on the reach of the carrier’s 5G network geographically. This is the same result with the 5G Voice App Experience where the two carriers were declared as joint winners. Smart scored 80.5 points and Globe scored 79.2 points on a 10-point scale.

Sam Fenwick, Opensignal senior analyst wrote: “Smart led Globe by some impressive margins when we compared our users’ 5G experience on both operators.” The above report is based on an independent analysis of mobile measurements recorded during the testing period.
