Sony has officially launched the WH-1000XM6 wireless noise canceling headphones in the Philippines, the latest model in its WH-1000X series.
Why it matters: The WH-1000XM6 builds on the reputation of Sony’s popular WH-1000X line by introducing a new noise canceling processor, better voice clarity for calls, and sound tuning by Grammy-winning audio engineers. It aims to offer a premium listening experience for both music lovers and professionals.
Sony says the new headphones come with the HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3, which is seven times faster than the previous version. This allows real-time tuning of 12 microphones—50% more than the WH-1000XM5—to better block out noise in different environments. The Adaptive NC Optimizer also adjusts to air pressure and other external conditions for more accurate noise canceling.
The headphones also introduce a specially tuned driver unit made from carbon fiber composite for better clarity across all frequencies. Sony worked with engineers from Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering to fine-tune the audio quality. This includes names like Randy Merrill, Mike Piacentini, and Michael Romanowski—known for mastering tracks for artists such as Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Alicia Keys.
For calls, the WH-1000XM6 has six beamforming microphones powered by an AI-based system to reduce background noise and isolate the user’s voice more effectively. There’s also a dedicated mute button for quick access.
Comfort-wise, Sony kept the same foldable design but improved the headband and earpads with vegan leather and stretchable materials. Controls remain intuitive with a combination of physical buttons and a touch panel.
The headphones support LDAC for High-Resolution Audio Wireless and use Edge-AI and DSEE Extreme to upscale compressed music in real-time. There’s also a new Scene-based Listening feature that uses sensors to adjust noise canceling and playback depending on your activity and surroundings.
Gamers can take advantage of a Game EQ mode, and movie fans can use the 360 Reality Audio Upmix for a surround sound-like experience using just stereo sources. The headphones are also ready for LE Audio with Auracast and offer multi-point pairing and fast charging—just 3 minutes of charge gives up to 3 hours of listening.
Sony has partnered with Post Malone for its “For The Music” campaign, promoting the WH-1000XM6 as part of its premium audio range.
The WH-1000XM6 is made with environmental concerns in mind, using 100% paper-based packaging sourced from bamboo, sugarcane fibers, and recycled paper.
Pricing and availability
The Sony WH-1000XM6 is available in Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue for PHP 27,999. It will be on sale at authorized Sony dealers nationwide from May 16 to June 20, 2025. Pre-orders come with a chance to win a trip to Coron, Palawan through a raffle promo.
