Baguio’s Panagbenga Festival is something you can feel before you even see it. The city becomes louder, more colorful, and noticeably busier. Visitors arrive early to claim spots along the parade routes, while vendors set up stalls selling food, flowers, and souvenirs.

For a first-time visitor, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Panagbenga is not just a single event. It stretches across weeks of activities. But two of its biggest highlights happen across one weekend. The Street Dance Parade comes first, followed by the Flower Float Parade the next day.
Armed with the HONOR X9d 5G, I spent two days along Baguio’s roads documenting both events. It turned into a good test of the phone’s camera, battery life, and usability in a crowded festival environment.
Street Dance Parade
The first day focused on movement. Schools and cultural groups from different parts of the Cordillera and nearby provinces performed choreographed routines while marching through the city.

Dancers wore vibrant costumes inspired by traditional attire. Headdresses, woven fabrics, and layered accessories created a wave of colors that shifted with every step of the performance.

Capturing these moments required quick reactions. Performers moved fast, and the crowd constantly shifted. The HONOR X9d 5G’s camera responded quickly when switching between standard shots and zoom. I was able to capture both wide scenes of the entire dance formation and tighter frames of individual performers.

One thing that stood out was how the camera handled color. Panagbenga is visually intense. Reds, yellows, blues, and greens fill the streets. Instead of oversaturating these tones, the phone kept them balanced and natural. Costumes looked lively without appearing artificial.
The large display also helped when reviewing photos on the spot. Even under bright daylight, the screen remained readable, which made it easier to check framing and exposure before moving to the next location.
Festivals come with challenges. People stand shoulder to shoulder along sidewalks. Some raise their phones above their heads to record videos. Others move quickly to find better angles.
During the Street Dance Parade, I often had to shift positions quickly. Sometimes I held the phone above the crowd to capture a clear view of the performers.
The slim profile of the HONOR X9d 5G helped here. It felt easy to grip even when holding it at unusual angles. Stabilization also made a difference when recording short video clips. Footage remained steady enough to watch without obvious shaking.
Another practical advantage was battery endurance. Festival coverage means constant screen usage, camera shots, and mobile data. From early morning until the afternoon parade ended, the phone still had enough charge left to keep going without searching for a power outlet. We’ll talk about it in another story, so stay tuned.
Flower Float Parade
If the first day of Panagbenga celebrates dance and culture, the second day celebrates flowers.
The Flower Float Parade transforms the streets into a moving garden. Large floats decorated with thousands of flowers roll slowly through the city. Each one carries a theme, often designed by local organizations or sponsors.

From a distance, the floats look like colorful sculptures. Up close, the details become more impressive. Layers of petals form patterns, shapes, and images that represent different aspects of Baguio and the Cordillera region.

This is where the camera’s detail capture became noticeable. I zoomed in to photograph the arrangements on several floats. Even at a closer crop, the textures of the petals and leaves remained clear.

Lighting conditions also changed throughout the parade. The sun moved higher in the sky, casting strong shadows on one side of the floats. The camera’s dynamic range helped balance these contrasts. Bright flowers remained vibrant while darker sections retained visible detail.

People watching the parade often raised their hands to wave or take pictures. That added another layer to the scene. Sometimes the best photos included both the float and the crowd reacting to it.

Large festivals can be unpredictable. Phones get bumped, jostled, and occasionally brushed against railings or barricades.
The HONOR X9d 5G is known for its durability, and that provided some peace of mind while moving through the crowd. During the two-day parade coverage, the phone went from pockets to hands to small bags repeatedly. It handled the constant handling without any visible issues.
But durability was only part of the experience. What mattered more during Panagbenga was consistency. The phone maintained stable performance while switching between camera use, messaging, navigation, and social uploads throughout the day.
Documenting my first Panagbenga
For someone attending Panagbenga for the first time, the festival feels like a sensory overload. Music echoes through the streets. Flowers fill the air with color. Every few minutes, something new passes by.
