OPPO and Discovery have partnered with the Department of Tourism to feature the Tboli community in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. The story is part of Discovery’s Culture in a Shot program under the 2025 theme “Celebrate the Moment.” After being shown in 15 countries and regions, the project now turns to the Philippines with a respectful look into the Tboli’s way of life and creativity.

Why it Matters: The project highlights Indigenous voices and traditions while showing how technology can play a role in preserving culture. For the Philippines, it marks an international spotlight on the Tboli community and their artistic heritage.
The partnership aims to document and preserve the cultural practices of the Tboli. OPPO supported the initiative by using the Reno14 Series 5G’s camera and AI imaging features to capture the community’s daily life in clear and true-to-life detail.

“At OPPO, we believe technology should go beyond convenience. It should empower communities and preserve heritage. This partnership with Discovery and the Department of Tourism allows us to do just that,” said Joanarc Sales, Associate Marketing Director of OPPO Philippines.
Production was coordinated with the Department of Tourism Region XII and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples. Activities were held with the guidance and consent of Tboli elders to ensure accuracy and respect for traditions.
The film highlights practices such as T’nalak weaving, guided by the spirit Fu Dalu, and brasswork from Sesotunawa, both of which show the creativity and resilience of the Tboli people.
The short film was shot using the OPPO Reno14 Series 5G, which captured low-light scenes, handheld footage, and natural colors without the need for heavy equipment.
The finished piece will be shown on the 3D billboard at One Bonifacio High Street, where visitors can view the story in large format and learn more about Tboli craftsmanship.
As part of the launch, OPPO invites the public to join two activities:
