Unboxing the phone reveals all of realme’s usual box components including documentation for manual and warranty, a charging brick, a USB Type-C cable, a SIM tray ejector tool, the phone itself, and a clear TPU case.

The phone itself is a departure from the characteristic-focused realme 6 and has exchanged the youthful comic design with a very attractive split-mirror finish, with light rays reflecting depending on how you hold the phone. The protruding camera layout has also been changed, this time to a wider area that now includes the flash. The realme logo is still at the lower part of the back.

The sides are very standard for realme phones, with the volume buttons and the SIM/MicroSD cards slot at the left side.

The right side, on the other hand, has the power/lock button that double-acts as the phone’s fingerprint scanner. It’s also recessed on the phone’s curved sides so it’s easy to locate even when in the dark.

The bottom has the loudspeaker, the USB Type-C port, and the 3.5mm audio jack. It’s great to note that this phone now has a bigger battery compared to its predecessor, with a 5000mAh battery capacity built in.

At the front we have the 6.5-inch Full HD IPS display with a 90Hz refresh rate, the call speaker, and the in-display camera at the upper-left corner. realme says that they have achieved a higher screen-to-body ratio than its predecessor, now at 90%. We’ll check on this as we work on a more in-depth comparison between the two devices in the coming days.

Let’s go back to the camera. The device features a quad-rear AI camera setup led by a 64-megapixel Sony sensor, along with a 118-degree ultrawide lens, a B&W module for portrait shots, and a 4cm macro shooter for shooting subjects up close.

We took some sample shots as we booted the device for the first time, and we’re impressed so far. Here are some samples:

This phone is also one of the first to sport MediaTek’s all-new Helio G95 chipset, which is made for those who want to play games consistently. It’s also has realme UI based on Android 10, so navigating in this phone isn’t that hard especially if you’re used to Android devices with UI skins.

We’re noting that we got a 2.3GB update from the moment we booted this phone, so the photo quality you’re seeing at this time may not be final. We’ll update the phone and get more shots out in the metro and share with you its performance as we take on the device for a full review.
