Samsung Galaxy A37 5G vs A36 5G: What changed?

Samsung’s Galaxy A3x series continues to focus on balanced upgrades year to year. With the new Galaxy A37 5G, the changes are subtle, but they touch on areas like performance, camera, and connectivity rather than a full redesign.

So what actually changed? We break it down for you.

Design and build

The Galaxy A37 5G keeps the same overall design as the A36 5G, including the flat frame and vertically aligned triple camera layout. Both devices use Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back, paired with a plastic frame. Durability remains unchanged as well, with both phones rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. In terms of size and weight, the Galaxy A37 5G measures 162.9 x 78.2 x 7.4 mm and weighs 196g, making it nearly identical to the A36. This means the in-hand feel and everyday handling remain familiar.

Display

The display experience is largely the same, but with a small improvement that matters outdoors. Both devices feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,200 nits in high brightness mode.

The Galaxy A37 5G, however, ups the ante with a peak brightness of up to 1,900 nits, which helps improve visibility under direct sunlight. For indoor use, the difference is minimal, but it becomes more noticeable outside.

Camera

The camera hardware remains mostly the same, but the processing sees improvements. Both devices feature a 50MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 5MP macro lens, along with a 12MP front camera that supports HDR video.

The Galaxy A37 5G introduces a larger pixel size of 1.0µm and an enhanced image signal processor. This leads to improved HDR video performance, better low-light capture, and reduced noise in both photos and videos. Samsung also highlights improved Nightography video, which helps deliver clearer results in darker environments.

Performance

Performance is one of the key areas of upgrade. The Galaxy A36 5G runs on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, while the Galaxy A37 5G uses the newer Exynos 1480 built on a 4nm process.

Based on Samsung’s internal figures, the A37 delivers a 14 percent improvement in CPU performance, a 24 percent increase in GPU performance, and up to 167 percent improvement in NPU performance. These changes translate to smoother multitasking, better gaming stability, and improved handling of AI-based features such as camera enhancements and on-device processing.

Connectivity also remains largely the same. Both devices support 5G and Wi-Fi 6. While there is no major upgrade in connectivity hardware, the newer chipset on the Galaxy A37 5G may provide more stable performance in certain scenarios.

Battery and charging

Battery and charging remain unchanged between the two devices. Both the Galaxy A37 5G and Galaxy A36 5G are equipped with a 5,000mAh battery and support 45W fast charging. Real-world battery life should be similar, although the newer chipset on the A37 may offer slight efficiency gains.

The Rundown

The Galaxy A37 5G is a refinement of the A36 5G. It improves performance, camera flexibility, and connectivity while keeping the same core experience.

If you are already using the A36, the upgrade is incremental. But for users coming from older devices, the A37 5G offers a more updated and balanced package.

The Samsung Galaxy A37 5G is priced at PHP 25,990 for the 8GB + 128GB variant, while the 8GB + 256GB version is available at PHP 27,990.
