Imagine holding a phone that unfolds into your entire workstation, movie screen, and AI assistant, all in one device that feels thinner than your power bank. That’s what Samsung is aiming for with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7.

After spending a few hours with it, it’s clear this isn’t just about screen size anymore—it’s about creating a smarter foldable that adapts to how you live and work. The Fold7 brings meaningful upgrades that improve comfort, function, and performance, and it may finally be the version that convinces power users to ditch their tablets for good.
Samsung made its lightest and slimmest Fold yet. At just 215 grams, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is lighter than the S25 Ultra. It’s also thinner, measuring only 8.9mm when folded. Despite this, it feels more solid thanks to its restructured Armor Aluminum frame and hinge, paired with new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protection on the outer display.

There’s also a major change in feel when folded. The cover screen now has a wider 21:9 aspect ratio, making one-handed typing easier and more natural. The redesigned hinge is smoother and feels less creaky, with improved durability that’s reassuring every time you fold and unfold.

Unfold the device and you’re greeted by an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, now with slimmer bezels and support for up to 2,600 nits of brightness. Outdoor visibility is no longer an issue, and colors remain vibrant even in direct sunlight.

This year’s model also introduces a screen that’s 11% larger than the Fold6. The crease is still there, but it’s far less noticeable due to the new FlexHinge design. With a 120Hz refresh rate and support for Vision Booster, content looks smooth and engaging—whether you’re working on documents or bingeing videos.

Powering the Fold7 is the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of internal storage. In use, everything feels instant. App launches are snappy, multitasking with multiple windows is fluid, and gaming performance is consistent.
But where it really shines is Galaxy AI. Out of the box, the Fold7 runs Android 16 with One UI 8, bringing a suite of AI-powered tools like Gemini Live, Circle to Search, and drag-and-drop AI across multi-window screens. Features like Results View and AI Suggestions show Samsung is designing experiences that fit the large screen, not just mirroring what you’d get on a standard phone.
Samsung upgraded the main sensor to a 200MP camera this year. This makes a difference in clarity, especially in daylight shots and 2x zoom crops. The ProVisual Engine delivers more accurate tone mapping, and low-light performance gets a boost with Night Video and 10-bit HDR support.

The inner selfie cam remains at 10MP, and it’s good enough for video calls and casual selfies. The main camera setup now feels closer to what you get on the Ultra line, without sacrificing the Fold’s slim profile. One of the best use cases we saw was using Photo Assist and Suggest Erase in real-time after taking shots. You can view the original and edited photo side by side, and the AI fills in gaps naturally.
On the work side, tools like Writing Assist and Results View are more useful than expected. While taking notes or drafting responses, AI will suggest rewrites and generate quick summaries. It’s surprisingly useful for power users and multitaskers who live in apps like Samsung Notes, Office, or email.
Battery capacity stays at 4,400mAh, but actual use has improved. The 3nm chip and AI-optimized software help stretch the battery longer, especially during standby.
Charging speeds are unchanged, but that’s not a major downside. It refuels fast enough to keep up with a busy day.

Samsung adds quantum-safe encryption via Secure Wi-Fi, and on-device AI is stored inside KEEP (Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection). This means your data and AI inputs are processed locally where possible. Samsung Care+ is available for those who want peace of mind, and you get 6 months of free access to Google AI Pro and 2TB Google Cloud storage.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is available in Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, Jetblack, and an online-exclusive Mint color. Pre-orders start July 9, with general availability on August 1. with free storage upgrades, savings up to 18%, and multiple installment options.

Initial Thoughts

The Fold7 doesn’t reinvent the concept of a foldable phone, but it does refine it in nearly every way. It’s lighter, smarter, and more powerful than ever. The combination of Galaxy AI and large screen multitasking makes it more than just a gimmick—it’s starting to feel essential. If you’ve been on the fence about foldables, this might be the year to take the plunge.
