Affinity relaunches as a free, all-in-one creative app under Canva

Affinity has officially relaunched under Canva, introducing an all-new version of its professional design software that combines vector, photo, and layout tools in one platform. The new Affinity app is now fully free to download for everyone.

Why it matters: This marks Canva’s biggest move yet into professional-grade design tools, bringing together Affinity’s studio-level editing power and Canva’s AI technology to serve both professional and everyday creators.

The redesigned Affinity app offers a single workspace for vector design, photo editing, and layout work without switching between separate programs. Designers can customize their workspace by mixing tools from different modules—Vector, Pixel, and Layout—to fit their workflow. The app also supports real-time editing with GPU acceleration for smooth performance, even with large files or high zoom levels.

Canva has also introduced Canva AI Studio inside Affinity, giving Canva Premium users access to features like Generative Fill, Expand & Edit, and Remove Background directly within the Affinity environment. Canva said that user projects and creative assets will remain private and will not be used to train AI models.

Affinity remains familiar for long-time users, with refined versions of its existing tools and workflows. It also supports major file formats including PSD, AI, PDF, SVG, TIFF, and IDML, allowing users to move projects between Affinity, Adobe, and Canva without starting over.

The all-new Affinity is now available for Mac and Windows, with an iPad version coming soon. Canva users can activate it through their existing accounts, while new users can sign up for a free Canva account to download it.

Do you think Canva’s move to make Affinity free will push more professionals to switch from paid design suites?
