Filipino consumers shift to authentic content as creator marketing evolves in 2026

Filipino consumers are changing how they decide what to buy, as highlighted during a closed webinar hosted on February 26 by Unbox Creator Network founder and president Carlo Ople. The session, attended by brand managers and marketing leads, focused on emerging trends in creator marketing and how shifting audience behavior is affecting brand strategies in the Philippines.

The discussion centered on what is driving this change, pointing to a growing preference for more authentic, less polished content, alongside the rapid rise of social commerce and increased scrutiny on influencer credibility.

Why it Matters: This shift signals a change in how brands need to communicate with Filipino audiences. As trust becomes harder to earn and easier to lose, relying on polished endorsements alone may no longer be effective. Brands that adapt to more transparent and relatable content may have a better chance of maintaining relevance.

The webinar outlined 11 trends shaping creator marketing this year. One of the most notable is the rise of lo-fi content. Filipino audiences are responding more to creators who present products in a casual and realistic way rather than through highly produced formats.

Social commerce is also accelerating. UCN estimates the Philippine market will reach $20.05 billion in 2026, with the gap between product discovery and purchase now reduced to just a few taps.

The data also favors smaller creators. Nano-influencers with 1,000 to 10,000 followers are reportedly generating $5.78 in return for every dollar spent, outperforming typical celebrity partnerships. Ople summarized this as a shift from prioritizing reach to focusing on trust.

At the same time, brands are placing more importance on credibility. UCN reports that 85% of Filipino brands now conduct integrity checks on creators before entering partnerships, as audiences become more critical of content that appears scripted or overly promotional.

Other trends discussed include the growing use of AI in managing creator interactions, such as handling direct messages and answering product questions in Taglish. The window for trend-based content is also getting shorter, with local topics needing a response in under 12 hours to remain relevant.

Brands are also moving toward longer-term partnerships, shifting away from one-off sponsored posts to collaborations that last several months.

Ople noted that platforms are increasingly rewarding content that reflects real consumer needs rather than content designed purely to capture attention. More of the report is presented on this website.

With these changes reshaping the creator landscape, how should brands in the Philippines adjust their strategies to keep up with more discerning audiences?
