GCash and Huawei have teamed up to introduce Watch Pay in the Philippines, allowing users to make payments using their smartwatch. The new feature uses a scannable QR code linked to your GCash wallet, making payments faster and more convenient.

Why it matters: Wearable payments have been available in other countries for some time, often seen during travels abroad. With Watch Pay, Filipinos can now experience the same convenience in everyday life — from grocery shopping to grabbing a quick meal — without needing to pull out their phone, wallet, or cash.
Watch Pay is currently available on the following Huawei wearables: Watch Ultimate, Watch 4, Watch 5, Watch Fit 3, Watch Fit 4 Series, Watch GT 4 and GT 5 Series, Band 10, and Watch D2 2. These devices now let users generate a unique GCash QR code directly on their smartwatch screen, which can be scanned by partner merchants during checkout.
Using Watch Pay is easy. Once set up, users can pay by simply generating the QR code on their watch and letting the cashier scan it. Payments are still recorded in the GCash app’s transaction history, so users can track their spending the same way they always have.
The new feature works at thousands of stores across the country that already accept GCash QR payments. These include Robinsons Supermarket, The SM Store, Lawson, and many others.
How to set up Watch Pay:
To link your smartwatch:
- Open GCash on your smartwatch
- Tap “Link”
- Scan the QR code using your Huawei or Android phone
- Press “Bind” and enter the linking code
- Confirm your device to finish pairing
To make a payment:
- Go to “Settings” on your Huawei smartwatch
- Tap “Payments”
- Tap “Open GCash”
- A QR code will appear that the store can scan
GCash says Watch Pay is part of its goal to make digital payments easier and more accessible to Filipinos. The company believes wearable payments can help users save time during errands and simplify daily spending.
Would you try using your smartwatch to pay at stores instead of bringing a wallet?
