Globe Telecom (Globe) logs over two million 5G devices in its 5G network as of the end-March this year. “We anticipate higher 5G device penetration among our customers this year with the continuous expansion of 5G coverage in the country and the release of more affordable handsets,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President, and CEO.
A large portion of the telco’s PHP 89 billion capital expenditures has been allocated to roll out more 5G sites and in-building solutions, upgrade more cell towers to 4G LTE, add more 4G cell sites, and lay down more fiber to the home lines this 2022. With all of this, at least 96% of the National Capital Region and 85% of key cities in Visayas and Mindanao now have Globe 5G outdoor coverage.
Globe has also made several entry-level and mid-range 5G models available for free on their postpaid plans to entice more customers to adapt to the new high-speed internet technology. The phones may also be bought separately from the Globe stores at discounted prices when bundled with a SIM-only plan.
In addition, the company also has a wide 5G roaming coverage internationally and continues to partner with more 5G-ready telcos around the world to provide customers traveling abroad access to high-speed internet.
