HONOR Philippines put the spotlight on durability once again after subjecting the HONOR X9d 5G to a high-altitude plane drop test, marking the most extreme challenge conducted so far for the X Series.

The test involved releasing the HONOR X9d 5G from an ultralight aircraft traveling at around 60 km/h, simulating a real-world scenario far beyond typical daily use. The drop was designed to assess how the device would handle sudden impact, speed, and height combined.
To document the test, HONOR Philippines invited Gadget Pilipinas Editor-in-Chief Gian Viterbo to personally take part in the challenge. Viterbo handled the release of the device mid-flight and later assessed the phone after recovery.
According to Viterbo, he expected the phone to be severely damaged after the drop. While visible wear was anticipated, he noted that the device was still functional and that stored files remained accessible, highlighting durability beyond physical appearance.
HONOR Philippines said the plane drop test builds on previous public stress tests conducted for earlier X Series models, but raises the difficulty by adding altitude and speed into the equation. The company described the test as a way to demonstrate how the HONOR X9d 5G handles extreme conditions that go beyond controlled lab environments.
A full video of the plane drop test has been released online, showing the preparation, mid-air release, and post-drop inspection of the device.
The plane drop test comes ahead of the official launch of the HONOR X9d 5G on January 9, where further details about the device are expected to be shared. We’ve uncovered key specifications and pre-order mechanics in another story.
