Commuters can now experience contactless ticket payments on the MRT-3, as GCash QRPH becomes available as a payment method for tickets in all stations.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the MRT-3 management, launched this pilot testing phase to promote faster, easier, and more secure ways to pay for train rides. This follows the President’s directive to modernize public transport and improve passenger convenience.
Why it matters: The cashless system is expected to reduce lines at ticket counters, speed up boarding times, and limit physical contact — a timely development as more commuters return to public transportation. It also supports the broader push for digital payment adoption in government services.
How it works: Instead of using cash, passengers can simply approach designated ticket booths marked with the “cashless” signage and use GCash or any QRPH-compatible digital banking or eWallet app to pay for their single journey tickets. A QR code will be scanned to complete the transaction.
The DOTr says it will monitor commuter feedback and system performance during the pilot period. This move is part of the government’s broader plan to make digital transactions part of everyday commuting — aligning with its long-term goals of smart and efficient transportation systems across the country.
Would you like to see GCash payments in all train lines and even in jeepneys or buses soon?
