Smart Communications received the Best Mobile Video Experience award in the Philippines from Ookla, a network intelligence and connectivity insights firm.

The recognition is based on Ookla’s analysis of Speedtest Intelligence data covering the third and fourth quarters of 2025. Smart recorded a Video Score of 78.60, the highest among mobile operators in the country.
Why it Matters: Filipinos are among the world’s most active consumers of online video, making network performance an important factor in everyday internet use. According to the Digital 2026 report by Meltwater and We Are Social, Filipinos spend about 20.48 hours per week watching online videos, the second highest globally after Kenya.
Ookla’s Video Experience metric measures the real-world quality of experience when users stream video on mobile networks. The score is calculated using three equally weighted components: acceptable video start time, uninterrupted playback, and the ability to stream in full HD resolution.
The company said the metric reflects the percentage of users who experience video start times of under two seconds, minimal buffering, and video playback at 1080p or higher resolution in most sessions.
For subscribers of Smart and its value brand TNT, this translates to faster video loading, fewer interruptions during playback, and clearer video quality when watching content on platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Netflix.
Stephen Bye, president and CEO of Ookla, said the award recognizes network performance measured using the firm’s testing methodology. “We are proud to recognize Smart for winning Best Video Experience in the Philippines,” said Bye. “This accolade is a testament to their industry-leading performance, as proven by Ookla’s methodology. Congratulations, Smart!”
Debbie M. Hu, Smart’s first vice president and head of wireless networks, said the recognition reflects ongoing efforts to improve network performance as demand for video continues to grow: “This latest recognition affirms our continued efforts in strengthening our network to support the growing digital needs of Filipinos, who are among the top video consumers in the world today.”
Smart also recently received Ookla’s Best Mobile Latency award in the Philippines. Latency refers to the delay between sending and receiving data across a network. Lower latency can improve experiences in activities that rely on real-time data exchange, including video streaming, online gaming, and video calls. “As video increasingly becomes the primary way people learn, work, and entertain themselves online, we remain focused on delivering a consistently superior streaming experience for our customers,” added Hu.
Lloyd R. Manaloto, Smart’s first vice president and co-officer-in-charge, said the recognitions reflect the company’s efforts to improve responsiveness and reliability of its mobile network: “Winning both the Best Mobile Video Experience and Best Mobile Latency awards reflects our goal of continuously elevating the digital experience of our customers. These recognitions highlight the strength of our network and reinforce our drive to deliver more responsive and reliable connectivity for Filipinos.”
Marjorie C. Garrovillo, also a first vice president and co-officer-in-charge at Smart, said the company plans to continue investing in network infrastructure to support increasing demand for high-quality video services.
