It’s now official: the mid-range HONOR X9a 5G is arriving in the Philippines, with a grand event penciled in this month. HONOR Philippines started the year with a bang by sending us a unit to use and abuse. Here’s a quick look.
First launched in Malaysia a few weeks ago, the device is reminiscent of the earlier launched HONOR X40 in China.

Unboxing the phone is easy, and it contained the essentials — the phone itself, a TPU case, some documents, a SIM ejector tool, the charging brick, and a Type-C data and charging cable.
The HONOR X9A takes design cues from the HONOR 70 5G with a curved 6.67-inch AMOLED display and a triple camera setup at the back. This is the Emerald Green color, by the way, one of the two color options aside from the Titanium Silver option.
Don’t forget that HONOR now have Google Mobile Services right out of the box, so you don’t need to worry about downloading your favorite apps.
Let’s look at the sides. The bottom has the dual SIM card tray slot, the microphone, the Type-C port, and the loudspeaker grille. The phone is sleek when seen at the sides with the power and volume buttons all at the right. The noise-canceling microphone and the IR blaster are all at the top.
This phone is also said to have very tough glass protecting the dual-edge display, so we tested it by dropping it not once, but multiple times on different floor areas. We are even instructed to use the phone to smash to tough objects such as watermelons and walnuts, and the phone still survives with flying colors. True enough, it did not have any damages or scratches. HONOR claims it can survive damage up to 5 feet.
