NexPhone can run Android, Linux, and Windows 11 all in one device

Nex Computer has announced NexPhone, a new smartphone that aims to blur the line between a phone and a full computer. The company, which is known for lapdocks that turn phones into laptop-like machines, says NexPhone is designed to work not just as an Android phone, but also as a Linux and Windows device when connected to a larger screen.

The idea behind NexPhone is simple. Instead of carrying a phone and a laptop, the company wants users to rely on one device that can shift roles depending on what is needed. On its own, NexPhone works like a regular Android phone. When plugged into a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, it can switch to a desktop-style environment using either Linux or Windows.

NexPhone runs Android 16 by default, but users can launch a Debian-based Linux desktop environment for more traditional PC-style work. For those who still need Windows, the device can also reboot into Windows 11. Nex Computer says it has worked on a custom interface to make Windows more usable on a small screen and when docked.

It is positioned more as a rugged and practical device than a slim and light smartphone. It uses an industrial-grade Qualcomm platform and comes with a thick, reinforced body that is rated for water, dust, and drops.

Nex Computer says NexPhone will be sold with a USB-C hub in the box to make it easier to connect to external displays and accessories. The company is positioning the device not just for regular users, but also for developers, IT workers, and those who want a single device for both mobile and desktop tasks.

The NexPhone will have a retail price of $549 when it goes on sale in the third quarter of 2026. At current mid-market exchange rates, that price is roughly around PHP 32,600, though the exact amount can vary depending on where and how the money is exchanged. The company is offering reservations now with a refundable $199 deposit (~PHP 11,800). Actual local prices could be different when the device launches in the Philippines.

While the idea of a phone that can fully replace a PC has been tried before in different forms, Nex Computer believes that better software support and more powerful hardware now make this approach more practical. Do you think a device like NexPhone can finally make the “one device for everything” idea work this time?
