A power bank exploded inside the Bills and Index office of the Senate in Pasay City at around 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, January 22. An employee immediately used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire caused by the incident.

Why it Matters: As power banks and other battery-powered devices have become common in offices and daily life, incidents like this highlight the potential risks when portable batteries are damaged, overheat, or have defects.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) arrived at around 4:05 p.m. to inspect the area. After the inspection, the situation was declared under control. No injuries were reported.
It can be recalled that a fire also broke out at the Senate in November 2025, which caused temporary disruption in parts of the building.
With more battery-powered devices being used in workplaces every day, are current safety measures enough to prevent similar incidents in the future?
