JCB celebrates 30 years in the Philippines with Japan-themed promos, cultural events

JCB is marking its 30th anniversary in the Philippines with a year-long celebration featuring exclusive promotions, cultural experiences, and merchant partnerships that also coincide with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Philippines.

Why it matters: The milestone reflects not only JCB’s three decades in the Philippine payments industry but also the growing economic and cultural ties between Japan and the Philippines. Through travel, retail, dining, and financial partnerships, JCB aims to strengthen its connection with Filipino consumers while promoting Japanese culture.

The details: Japan and the Philippines established diplomatic relations in 1956, with 2026 designated as the Philippines-Japan Friendship Year to commemorate seven decades of bilateral cooperation.

JCB, the only international payment brand headquartered in Japan, entered the Philippine market in 1996. Since then, the company has expanded its presence by working with local banks, merchants, and travel partners while offering benefits designed to encourage Filipinos to experience Japan.

To celebrate the dual milestones, JCB will hold a three-day anniversary event at the SM Mega Fashion Hall from September 25 to 27, 2026.

The event will bring together JCB cardholders, banking partners, merchants, and guests for activities highlighting Japanese culture, merchant collaborations, and the company’s partnerships in the Philippines. According to JCB, the celebration is intended to showcase how payments can also serve as a platform for cultural exchange between the two countries.

Alongside the event, JCB is rolling out several limited-time promotions inspired by Japan.

From July 1 to 31, 2026, eligible cardholders can apply for a Japan visa for PHP 30 through the promotional offer.

Travelers can also receive USD 30 off Japan Airlines (JAL) flights booked between July 15 and 31, 2026, for travel until May 31, 2027.

Food enthusiasts can enjoy ramen for PHP 30 at participating Ramen Kuroda branches every Tuesday from July 14 through September 29, 2026.

Meanwhile, shoppers can get 30% off purchases at Mitsukoshi Fresh and Beauty from July 16 to August 16, 2026.

JCB Philippines Country Manager Wataru Tamura said the anniversary is more than a celebration of the company’s business operations in the country.

“For us, this milestone is a celebration of the lasting relationships, shared experiences, and cultural connections JCB has built with Filipino cardholders over the past three decades,” Tamura said.

He added that JCB remains committed to serving as a bridge between Japan and the Philippines by creating partnerships and introducing more Filipinos to Japanese culture through exclusive collaborations and promotions.

The bigger picture: As international travel continues to recover, payment networks are increasingly expanding beyond transaction services by offering travel perks, dining promotions, and lifestyle experiences. JCB’s anniversary campaign reflects this strategy by combining payment benefits with cultural activities and merchant partnerships tied to Japan.

The campaign also reinforces Japan’s position as one of the Philippines’ closest economic and tourism partners, with financial services companies playing a role in supporting travel and cross-border commerce.

For Filipinos: JCB cardholders can take advantage of discounts on Japan travel, dining, and shopping while participating in activities celebrating Japanese culture. Those planning trips to Japan may benefit from the airline and visa promotions, while local shoppers and diners can enjoy anniversary offers without leaving the Philippines.

What’s next: JCB’s anniversary campaign will continue throughout 2026, culminating in its three-day celebration at SM Mega Fashion Hall in September. The company said additional merchant collaborations and promotional offers will be announced through its official channels.

The Bottom Line: JCB is celebrating 30 years in the Philippines by highlighting its role in connecting Filipino consumers with Japan through payment services, travel benefits, merchant partnerships, and cultural experiences that commemorate the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
