Samsung Galaxy S26 FE Review: More Refinements

Samsung’s Galaxy FE lineup has always had a simple purpose: bring much of the Galaxy S experience to a supposed lower price point. The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE continues that formula with a large AMOLED display, a triple-camera system, wireless charging, IP68 protection, Galaxy AI, and years of software support.

This year, however, Samsung’s approach is more evolutionary than revolutionary. The Galaxy S26 FE keeps much of the hardware we saw on the previous generation, while introducing the newer Exynos 2500 chipset, updated software, new AI features, and some design changes. We look at what works, what has changed, and whether its familiar formula still makes sense for a modern Samsung phone in this review.

Design and Construction

The Galaxy S26 FE keeps the flat-sided design that has become familiar across Samsung’s recent smartphones. It is a relatively large phone because of its 6.7-inch display, but its 7.4mm thickness and 193g weight make it reasonably comfortable to carry.

The aluminium frame adds to the premium feel, while Gorilla Glass Victus+ provides protection for the front and rear. IP68 certification is also here, giving the phone protection against dust and water. The tradeoff is you get antenna bands all over the sides for better signal reception.

Samsung has made some visual changes to bring the FE closer to the rest of the Galaxy S26 family. The camera area is now more distinctive, although the overall construction remains familiar if you have used the previous FE. One thing I learned while buying a temporary protective case for this is that the camera module placement is nearer the edge now, so S25 FE cases don’t actually fit.

The S26 FE feels well-built and polished. It simply does not represent a major redesign. One small consideration is the glossy rear panel, which is more prone to showing fingerprints compared with some matte finishes.

Display and Audio

The 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X remains one of the strongest parts of the Samsung Galaxy S26 FE. The FHD+ resolution is enough for a sharp image at this screen size, while the 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling, animations, and compatible games feel smooth.

Colors are vibrant without making the display feel excessive, and the AMOLED panel provides the deep blacks and contrast we expect from Samsung.

The display can also reach up to 1,900 nits of peak brightness, giving it enough headroom for outdoor use.

However, this is another area where Samsung has chosen continuity rather than a major upgrade. The panel remains FHD+ and does not introduce the more advanced LTPO technology found on some higher-end devices.

For everyday use, though, these limitations are easy to overlook. Watching videos, browsing social media, reading articles, and editing photos all benefit from the large and bright AMOLED panel.

The stereo speakers complement the display well for video watching and casual listening. As expected, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack.

Camera

The Galaxy S26 FE has a triple-camera setup consisting of a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide, and an 8MP telephoto camera with OIS and 3x optical zoom.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE’s main camera delivers detailed images with good exposure and a balanced color profile. Fine details remain visible without excessive sharpening, while Samsung’s processing gives photos a clean and polished appearance. Dynamic range is also handled well, particularly in outdoor scenes with a mix of bright skies and darker areas.

In more challenging lighting, the camera continues to retain a reasonable amount of detail. Shadows are not excessively crushed, while highlights remain controlled. Noise reduction becomes more noticeable as available light decreases, but it does not significantly affect the usability of the resulting images.

The ultrawide camera provides a wider perspective while keeping its color reproduction relatively close to the main camera. There is some reduction in fine detail compared with the primary camera, particularly toward the edges, but the difference is acceptable for wider compositions. It works well when capturing larger scenes where stepping back is not an option.

The 3x telephoto is particularly useful for distant subjects. At its native optical range, it retains a good amount of detail and provides noticeably more reach than simply cropping a standard shot. The samples show good definition in distant structures and smaller details, making the telephoto useful beyond simply having another lens for the specifications sheet.

Pushing the zoom further introduces a gradual loss of detail. Fine textures become softer and computational processing becomes more apparent, particularly around high-contrast edges and repeating patterns. Even so, higher zoom levels remain useful when the priority is getting closer to a distant subject rather than preserving maximum detail.

For portraits, the cameras produce good subject separation and maintain a consistent look across different focal lengths. The telephoto can also provide a more natural perspective for portraits compared with shooting close to a subject with the main camera. Skin tones remain reasonably natural, while processing keeps the images clean without completely removing facial texture.

Video follows the same strengths of the still cameras, with the main camera providing the most dependable combination of detail, exposure, and stabilization. You can record up to 8K resolution at 30 frames per second with the rear camera, and surprisingly HD only records at 30fps, I was expecting a 60fps option there.

You also get stabilization and cropping tools such as My FanCam, which can help keep a selected subject in frame, and Super Steady with Horizontal Lock from the flagship S series line to help you record better as you move around in action. To our surprise, the stabilization is amazing even without Super Steady on, as you can see in our sample video when we are recording at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.

For a phone in the FE series, the camera setup provides useful flexibility without making the secondary cameras feel like afterthoughts. The 3x telephoto, in particular, adds a practical shooting option that the main camera alone cannot provide.

Performance

Hardware Performance

The Exynos 2500 is arguably the most significant hardware change in the Galaxy S26 FE. Built on a 3nm process, the chipset brings the phone closer to Samsung’s current flagship-level performance.

Everyday tasks are handled smoothly, from switching between applications to browsing, streaming, photography, and multitasking.

For regular users, the S26 FE has more than enough performance. Gaming is also possible across a wide range of titles. More demanding games can push the phone harder, however, and sustained workloads can result in additional heat and performance fluctuations. This is not unusual for a thin smartphone, but dedicated gaming phones and some performance-focused competitors still have an advantage when it comes to sustained gaming.

The 8GB RAM configuration is sufficient for normal use, although it does not feel particularly generous for a phone at this level in 2026.

The bigger story is that the Exynos 2500 gives the S26 FE a newer performance foundation, but the difference is less dramatic in everyday use than the processor name might suggest. Users coming from an older Galaxy FE will notice the newer platform more than someone upgrading directly from an S25 FE.

Software and Galaxy AI

The Galaxy S26 FE runs Android 17 with One UI 9. Samsung’s software remains one of the strongest reasons to consider the phone. One UI is mature, feature-rich, and deeply integrated with the company’s ecosystem.

Galaxy AI also plays a significant role. Features such as Photo Assist, Gemini integration, Now Brief, Now Nudge, and My FanCam make the S26 FE feel more like a current Galaxy device rather than simply a lower-cost version of the flagship.

Samsung’s long-term software commitment is another major advantage. The phone receives seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. That makes the S26 FE easier to recommend to someone who intends to keep a phone for several years.

The trade-off is that One UI is not the cleanest Android interface available. Samsung includes a number of applications and services out of the box, and users who prefer a minimal software experience may need some time to organize the phone to their liking.

Connectivity

The Galaxy S26 FE offers 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and eSIM support. IP68 protection and wireless charging are particularly welcome features at this price point.

There is, however, one notable change that power users should know about. The phone uses USB 2.0 over USB Type-C. This means it does not offer the same high-speed wired connectivity or wired DisplayPort functionality available on previous FE models with faster USB standards.

This also means wired DeX is no longer available. Wireless DeX remains available, so Samsung’s desktop-style experience has not disappeared completely. However, users who regularly connect their phone to an external monitor or transfer large files over a cable will notice this change.

For the average user, USB 2.0 may never become an issue. For power users, it is one of the more meaningful changes to consider.

Battery

The 4,900mAh battery remains unchanged. In typical daily use, the S26 FE can comfortably serve as a full-day smartphone. The Exynos 2500 also brings efficiency improvements that help make the most of the available capacity.

The phone can surprisingly last up to a whole day of slightly heavy use with two SIMs in, occasional social media and camera usage, calls and SMS all while connected to either mobile data or WiFi, with us having around 8 hours and 40 minutes of screen on time. Our PCMark Battery Test put the device at 16 hours and 54 minutes, which is quite respectable for a device with a battery this size.

Samsung supports 45W wired charging, which provides a reasonable balance between charging speed and battery management. It is not the fastest charging system in its segment, but is fast enough for most users and represents a meaningful convenience during everyday use. You’d get around 48 percent from 0 after 27 minutes, and a full charge at around 1 hour and 25 minutes.

Wireless charging is also supported at up to 15W, along with Wireless PowerShare. Having both wired and wireless charging gives the S26 FE more flexibility than many phones in this price range.

The Rundown

Best for: The Galaxy S26 FE is best for users who want a large Samsung phone with a premium set of features without stepping up to the flagship Galaxy S series. It works particularly well for people who value the 6.7-inch AMOLED display, dependable cameras with a dedicated 3x telephoto, wireless charging, IP68 protection, Galaxy AI, and long-term software support.

It is also a good fit for users who plan to keep their phone for several years. Samsung’s seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates give the S26 FE a clear advantage for long-term ownership.

Skip if: The Galaxy S26 FE may not be the right fit if charging speed, maximum gaming performance, or the latest camera hardware are your top priorities. There are competitors offering faster charging, larger batteries, and more aggressive hardware in these areas.

Existing Galaxy S25 FE owners may also have fewer reasons to upgrade immediately. The S26 FE brings a newer chipset and software experience, but the display, battery, and core camera hardware remain largely familiar.

Power users who rely on wired DeX, external displays, or fast wired file transfers should also take note of the move to USB 2.0.
