Riot Games Philippines has officially launched the nationwide registration for the open qualifiers of Liga Republika, the newly inaugurated national League of Legends tournament designed specifically for Filipino players. This initiative follows Riot Games’ global announcement about revamping the LoL Esports ecosystem set to debut in 2025, aiming to elevate local competitive gaming communities and provide a pathway for Filipino players to excel on the international stage.
Joel Guzman, Country Manager of Riot Games Philippines, expressed excitement about Liga Republika’s launch, highlighting its role in rejuvenating Filipino players and the broader League of Legends community. Following the success of last year’s Kickoff Invitational, teams like Guardian’s Hive, Looking for Sponsor (LFS), Fantasy Esports, and Ninja Alpha have secured spots in the upcoming group stage in August.
The open qualifiers for Liga Republika are set to begin with four rounds scheduled on July 13, July 20, July 27, and August 2. Teams interested in participating can register from June 3 to June 20, forming groups of at least five players. The league anticipates up to 512 teams competing in the open qualifiers, vying for one of the 12 slots available in the group stage. As the competition progresses, eight teams will advance to the playoffs, culminating in a LAN event in September where the top four finalists will compete for a million-peso prize pool.
Kimi Salazar, MOBA Brand Manager of Riot Games Philippines, emphasized the enthusiastic reception of Liga Republika within the Filipino gaming community. Salazar noted that this initiative is crucial for nurturing local League of Legends talent and preparing them for future international competitions. The league aims to establish a robust competitive gaming scene in the Philippines, paving the way for local players to showcase their skills and compete at higher levels.
