Apple Unveils iPhone 18 Pro Series, Now Priced in the Philippines

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max as part of its global launch, with Philippine pricing announced at the same time. The new Pro models bring major upgrades to the camera system, performance, thermal management, and battery life.

Why it matters: Apple is positioning the iPhone 18 Pro series as a major step forward rather than a minor refresh. The new models introduce variable aperture on the main camera, Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, a redesigned Dynamic Island, and a new vapor chamber designed to deliver the highest sustained performance yet on an iPhone.

The details: Both models feature a new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, marking the first time Apple has brought adjustable aperture control to the iPhone.

The camera uses six laser-cut blades that can smoothly transition between apertures. It can automatically adjust aperture depending on lighting and depth of field, while users can manually select from four aperture settings through the Camera app.

The main camera can also widen the aperture to ƒ/1.48 for improved low-light photography. A new sensor and computational imaging pipeline further improve detail, including in group photos and other challenging scenes.

Apple is also introducing Pro controls for the Camera app, giving users manual control over settings such as aperture, shutter speed, and white balance. A histogram is also available for checking exposure.

Photographic Styles gain new texture and grain controls, while video features now include the ability to apply Cinematic effects after recording at up to 60fps. Time-lapse recording also supports 4K and Dolby Vision HDR, while Audio Mix gets new algorithms for improved voice quality and music isolation.

The iPhone 18 Pro series also introduces Apple Reference Image, which is designed to help verify the authenticity of photos. When Reference mode is used, the Main camera captures signed sensor data that is processed into an unalterable reference image. Users can compare this reference with the main photo in the Photos app to check whether edits were made.

Powering the new Pro models is Apple’s A20 Pro, built using a 2nm process. The chip features a 6-core CPU with integrated Neural Accelerators and 50 percent more memory bandwidth than A19 Pro.

Its new 7-core GPU is up to 40 percent faster than A19 Pro, while a Dual 16-core Neural Engine provides 32 total cores for twice the AI processing power of the previous generation. The chip is designed to handle demanding games, on-device AI workloads, and computational photography while maintaining high performance over longer periods.

Apple has paired A20 Pro with a redesigned vapor chamber that has three times more surface area than the previous generation on iPhone 17 Pro. The new design allows the chip to connect directly to the vapor chamber and improves heat dissipation, enabling up to a 40 percent gain in sustained performance compared to the previous generation.

Both models feature Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. They also introduce Apple’s C2 next-generation cellular modem system, which brings AI-powered improvements to cellular quality and reliability. Apple says C2 delivers faster uploads than C1X while using 15 percent less energy.

The Dynamic Island has been redesigned to take up less space while providing more information. It can now display up to three Live Activities simultaneously, while continuing to support Face ID for authentication, unlocking, and purchases.

Battery life gets one of the biggest upgrades on the new Pro lineup. The iPhone 18 Pro offers up to 34 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max reaches up to 43 hours, giving it the longest battery life ever offered on an iPhone Pro model.

The iPhone 18 Pro can charge to 50 percent in around 15 minutes, while wireless charging can reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes. On the Pro Max, five minutes of wired charging can provide around seven hours of video playback.

Both models run iOS 27, which introduces improvements to responsiveness, reliability, personalization, and the Liquid Glass design. Apple is also adding new tools that give parents more control over what their children can see, who they can communicate with, and when they can access their devices.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are available in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy, with burgundy being the new finish. Apple is also introducing new Silicone Cases, TechWoven Cases, Crossbody Straps, and FineWoven Wallets. A new Wrist Strap provides a hands-free way to carry an iPhone, AirPods Pro 2, or AirPods Pro 3.
