Apple Pay is reportedly set to officially launch in the Philippines on August 4, according to multiple financial industry sources familiar with the matter. While Apple has yet to make a public announcement, sources indicate that participating banks and payment partners are in the final stages of preparing for the rollout.

Why it matters: The arrival of Apple Pay would give iPhone and Apple Watch users in the Philippines another way to make contactless purchases in stores, apps, and online using supported debit and credit cards. The launch would also expand the country’s growing digital payments ecosystem and provide Apple users with an alternative to existing mobile payment services.
The details: Apple Pay allows users to securely add eligible payment cards to the Apple Wallet app and make payments using their iPhone or Apple Watch at NFC-enabled terminals. The service also supports in-app and online purchases, with transactions authenticated through Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode.
Although Apple has not confirmed which Philippine financial institutions will support the service at launch, multiple industry sources indicate that several banks have completed or are nearing the completion of their Apple Pay integrations.
Community findings, recent mobile app updates, and backend changes have also fueled speculation that the initial lineup of participating institutions may include:
- BPI
- UnionBank
- Metrobank
- Chinabank
- GoTyme Bank
- EastWest Bank
- Atome
- Wise
However, none of the institutions above have officially announced Apple Pay support as of publication. Their inclusion remains speculative until confirmed by Apple or the respective financial institutions.
The bigger picture: The Philippines has seen steady growth in contactless and digital payments over the past several years, supported by wider deployment of NFC-enabled payment terminals and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ continued push toward a more digital financial ecosystem. Apple Pay’s entry would further strengthen the country’s expanding range of cashless payment options as Google Pay is already available in the country since last year.
Between the lines: Apple Pay availability ultimately depends on participating banks enabling support for eligible debit and credit cards. Even after the official launch, not all card issuers are expected to be supported immediately, with additional banks likely joining in future phases.
Most merchants that already accept Visa payWave and Mastercard Contactless transactions are also expected to accept Apple Pay without requiring additional hardware upgrades.
For Filipinos: For iPhone users, Apple Pay offers a more convenient way to pay without carrying physical cards. Transactions are protected through tokenization, ensuring merchants do not receive the customer’s actual card number, while authentication is handled directly on the user’s device.
What’s next: If the August 4 rollout proceeds as expected, Apple and its banking partners are anticipated to publish official announcements detailing supported cards, eligible devices, and activation procedures. More financial institutions are also expected to add support in the months following the initial launch.
The Bottom Line: According to multiple financial industry sources, Apple Pay is on track to officially debut in the Philippines on August 4. While the launch date appears to be set, Apple has yet to formally announce the service, and the list of participating banks should be treated as unconfirmed until official announcements are made.
