Grab Unveils New AI-powered App Tools for Users

Grab has launched several new features during its first GrabX product showcase. The company says these updates are meant to support people in their everyday lives, whether they’re alone, with family, or traveling.

Why it matters: Grab is adding more personalized tools for different types of users, using AI and its growing ecosystem to improve how people book rides, order food, and explore their surroundings.

Grab’s new services focus on solo eaters, large food orders for families, and better travel tools for those exploring new places. There’s also a new Grab Early Access Programme for users who want to try upcoming features before others and share feedback.

New services for families

Grab for Family | Teens: Teens aged 13 to 17 can now use Grab to travel independently, but with safety controls in place. Their account is linked to a parent or guardian’s Family account. Parents can monitor their teen’s ride in real time and will get alerts if something unusual happens during the trip.

Safety features include:

  • Priority driver assignment based on driver ratings
  • Ride PIN matching between driver and teen
  • AudioProtect, which records sound during the ride and will soon use AI to detect problems
  • Full trip monitoring for parents or guardians

This feature will be available in several countries starting May.

Improved large order delivery: Grab now uses a special AI model to detect large food orders based on item size and weight. If the order is too big for one rider, it either assigns a 4-wheel vehicle or splits the order between two delivery partners. This aims to make sure the full order arrives without long delays. The system is already live in Southeast Asia.

New options for solo users

GrabFood for One: This lets solo diners order affordable meals with no minimum spend and a fixed low delivery fee. It’s available now in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Shared Saver: This allows users to join nearby orders from the same restaurant, even with strangers. The system finds overlapping orders and combines them to lower delivery fees. It also removes small order charges. Users can also start a shared order themselves. It’s launching first in Singapore this April, with plans to expand to more cities by June.

Tools for travelers and explorers

Advance Booking (Airport Pickup): Users can book airport pickups ahead of time, and the system tracks flight schedules to adjust pickup time. It’s now available at airports in Bali, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Kuala Lumpur, Phuket, and Singapore. More cities will be added soon.

Dine Out Discovery (with GrabMaps): This feature helps users find restaurants nearby with filters for cuisine, pricing, popularity, and distance. It also includes restaurant info, menus, reviews, and reservation options where available. It launches in all markets by May. Table reservations will start in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand first.

Grab Travel Pass: Travelers can buy this pass before leaving their home country. It offers vouchers for airport rides, food delivery, transport, and dining. The goal is to help make trips around Southeast Asia easier and more affordable. It’s available now across all countries.

Early Access Programme

Grab is also introducing an Early Access Programme where users can sign up to try new features before they officially launch. Users are encouraged to share their feedback so Grab can improve these tools over time.

As Grab continues to update its services with new tools and AI-powered features, it’s clear the platform wants to stay closely connected to how users live, eat, and move around Southeast Asia. But with more changes and tests on the way, will these updates really make everyday tasks easier for different types of users?
