MediaTek has been known to make chipsets that power smartphones from the entry-level up to the mid-range segment. Now with their new Dimensity 900 5G chipset, they are bringing 5G and several other premium features to the high-tier segment. Built on a 6nm process, the new chipset supports Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, FHD+ displays with a 120Hz refresh rate, 4K HDR content, and a 108MP main camera.

The Dimensity 900 chipset is also integrated with a 5G New Radio (NR) sub-6Ghz modem with carrier aggregation and support for bandwidth up to 120MHz. Add to that, an octa-core processor with two ARM Cortex-A78 cores with a clock speed of up to 2.4GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a clock speed of up to 2Ghz. On the graphics side, the ARM Mali-G68 GPU carries all the work combined with an AI processing unit. The chipset also supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 internal storage.

Other features included are:

  • MediaTek Imagiq 5.0 integrates an HDR-native Image Signal Processor (ISP) and hardware-accelerated 4K HDR video recording that supports up to four cameras with up to 108MP sensors.
  • MediaTek MiraVision improves the quality of HDR10+ content with real-time enhancements as well as on standard dynamic range (SDR) and HDR.
  • MediaTek HyperEngine supports gaming and uninterrupted calls at the same time combined with 5G.
  • Also included are AI camera enhancements, dual-SIM 5G, dual-SIM VoNR (voice over New Radio), 5G SA (standalone)/NSA (non-standalone), True dual-SIM 5G (5G SA+5G SA), 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.2, and GNSS.

The devices that will be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 900 chipset are expected to be launched in the global market in Q2 of 2021.
