Samsung introduces Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra in the Philippines

Samsung has officially introduced its latest foldable smartphone lineup in the Philippines with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. Running One UI 9 based on Android 17, the three devices bring a refreshed Galaxy AI experience, thinner designs, improved durability, and updated hardware while catering to different types of users.

Why it matters: Rather than treating foldables as a single premium category, Samsung has expanded its portfolio into three distinct devices. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is built for power users who want the largest display and flagship imaging system. The all-new Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces a more compact book-style foldable designed for everyday portability, while the Galaxy Z Flip8 continues to focus on style, convenience, and cover-screen usability.

Samsung says this year’s foldables place greater emphasis on artificial intelligence with new features such as Now Brief, Now Nudge, Gemini Intelligence, Gemini Notebook, and an improved AI Assistant Activity dashboard. Privacy features have also been strengthened through Samsung Knox, Personal Data Engine, and Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), keeping AI processing secure while allowing more personalized experiences.

Connectivity has likewise been upgraded with Wi-Fi 7 support across the lineup, while Smart Switch now simplifies migration from Android smartphones and even iPhones through QR-based transfers. Quick Share has also received improvements for easier sharing between supported devices.

Galaxy Z Fold8 focuses on portability

The biggest change this year comes with the Galaxy Z Fold8. Instead of simply succeeding last year’s Fold, Samsung has redesigned the device into a much more compact foldable that prioritizes portability without sacrificing the benefits of a large inner display.

Weighing just 201 grams and measuring only 4.5mm when unfolded, the Galaxy Z Fold8 is Samsung’s lightest Fold device to date. Its slimmer body immediately makes it feel less intimidating than previous Fold models, allowing it to fit comfortably into smaller pockets and making prolonged one-handed use much easier.

Its redesigned proportions also play a significant role. The 5.5-inch outer display is wider than previous Fold devices while remaining easy to reach with one hand. Once unfolded, the 7.6-inch display adopts a near 4:3 aspect ratio that makes web browsing, reading, multitasking, and watching videos feel more natural than the taller displays used on earlier Fold generations.

Samsung has also introduced a new Flex Titanium display structure designed to improve durability while reducing overall thickness. Combined with slimmer bezels and a refined hinge, the Fold8 feels considerably more polished despite maintaining its large tablet-like display when opened.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra pushes productivity further

For users who want the biggest foldable experience possible, Samsung revamps last year’s tall Fold into the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The Ultra becomes the flagship of Samsung’s foldable lineup with its larger 8-inch main display, bigger 6.5-inch cover display, and an ultra-thin 4.1mm unfolded profile.

Unlike the standard Fold8, the Ultra retains a larger footprint for productivity. The expansive display offers additional room for multitasking, document editing, creative work, and media consumption while remaining surprisingly lightweight for its size.

Photography also receives a major boost. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a 200MP main camera alongside a 50MP ultrawide camera and a dedicated 3x telephoto camera. Samsung has also added upgraded Nightography processing, Cine LUT support for video creators, and 8K recording using the APV codec for improved editing flexibility.

To sustain performance, Samsung enlarged the cooling system while maintaining the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset found throughout the premium lineup.

Galaxy Z Flip8 puts AI on the cover screen

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip8 continues Samsung’s pocketable clamshell approach but introduces a significantly smarter FlexWindow. The cover display now serves as more than just a notification screen. Users can access Now Brief, launch compatible applications, interact with Gemini, control widgets, and perform more daily tasks without opening the phone.

The Flip8 remains Samsung’s slimmest Flip smartphone yet while introducing improvements to FlexCam, Mirror View, ProVisual Engine, Super Steady video, and subject tracking for content creators.

Galaxy AI expands across the lineup

All three smartphones benefit from Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI platform. Now Brief delivers personalized updates throughout the day, while Now Nudge proactively recommends actions based on user habits and routines. Gemini Intelligence has also been integrated deeper into One UI, allowing users to complete more complex requests without switching between multiple applications.

Samsung says many AI features now operate with improved on-device privacy through Personal Data Engine and Knox Vault, giving users greater control over how their information is processed.
