realme Cobble Bluetooth Speaker Unboxed, Hands-on

A compact powerhouse

A compact powerhouse

August is realme’s FanFest month where they launch a ton of surprises and events for their fans, as well as new releases including this new realme Cobble Speaker that offers a long single-charge battery life and USB Type-C charging. Here’s our first look at the device.

Inside the box, we get just the essentials: a booklet for documentation, a yellow USB-A to USB-C cable, and the cobble speaker in itself.

Looking at the portable audio device at first glance, it’s similar to the brand’s recent design ethos — shaping audio gear like a cobble as we’ve seen with the affordable TWS earphones such as the realme buds Q and Q2.

At one side is the enclosed USB Type-C port for charging. It’s relatively easy to open given the chiseled gap on the flap.

Another side has the two lone buttons for the speaker, which are the power and mode (M) buttons. There’s the LED light for battery/power status, as well as a small hole for a microphone.

The top part has a metal grille for protecting its two speakers inside including a passive bass radiator and a 5-watt dynamic bass boost driver, while the bottom offers a matte rubber surface that’s non-slip but is susceptible to fingerprint smudges. I appreciate the four corners design meant to keep the device in place.

The realme Cobble Bluetooth speaker offers a very light and compact footprint with only just 200 grams of weight. It’s also not that hard to carry as you can also tie it in your bag with the provided string setup attached to the device. While it’s true that the lanyard illuminates for better night visibility, it’s only a feature present in the blue color variant.

Some of the key features of this speaker include a low-latency Game mode for multimedia streaming and gaming, as well as the ability to switch between three, different presets once you connect it to the realme link app. There’s also an IPX5 water resistance certification, which makes it easy to bring to the pool or use under light rain without worrying if it will be damaged due to splashes.

If you’re looking to snag this portable speaker, it’s going to be priced at PHP 1,590 (SRP) but you can get this on a discount as part of realme’s 8.8 Sale offers at a cheaper PHP 1,190 price tag on their official Shopee and Lazada pages. It’s also said to last for up to 9 hours on a single charge, so we’re taking this small, portable speaker for a full review in the coming days to check if it does last that long.
