Telecommunications Connectivity Inc. (TCI), a joint venture of Globe Telecom (Globe), Smart Communications (Smart), and DITO Telecommunity (DITO), is actively working on addressing the roadblocks that the Mobile Network Portability (MNP) faces.
These roadblocks or “birth pains” as they call them, were already anticipated in the process of MNP as there are differences in the network architecture and design of the network infrastructure used by Mobile Service Providers (MSPs).
Technical and non-technical issues have also contributed to these roadblocks. Among the technical issues that were immediately addressed and resolved during the first implementation of the MNP last September 30, 2021, are the port out rejections, unique subscriber code (USC) generation, enabling portability of Virtual Number Operators (VNOs), and airtime loading. In addition, new issues also arose after they resolved the initial problems, and the project teams of Globe, Smart, and DITO continue to collaborate to resolve these.
A service level agreement (SLA) is also being crafted to streamline the response time in each critical issue encountered by subscribers to improve customer experience and address MNP hesitancy. TCI continues to work with MSPs and collaborate with regulatory bodies such as the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to ensure that the MNP law is fully implemented and supported.
