We happened to see the newest flagship phone launch in the country just a few days ago, and we got our own look at the unit earlier during a media conference, brought by our friends from GizGuide (their hands-on is here) and we got to toy around with it for a few minutes.

The device reminds us of earlier realme devices that are on the hefty side due to their strong composition. Here we have the 6.7-inch display with a 2K display at the front, with slim bezels at all sides. The 32MP selfie camera is placed at a cut-out portion in the upper-left corner, while the corner speaker that acts as 1/2 of the phone’s loudspeakers is at the edge.

The sides offer an silver hue, with a metallic construction that gives the device its premium heft. Antenna bands are visibly seen all around the phone to aid in network reception. At the right we have the power/lock button, while we have the volume keys at the opposite part.

The bottom features the dual SIM card tray slot, the microphone, the USB-C port, and a bottom-firing loudspeaker. Sorry ma, no 3.5mm audio jack is available in this device.

Flip the device to its back and we have the device in a paper-like design, which was a brainchild of realme’s special designer Naoto Fukusawa. He’s not new to realme as he designed other phones in the past such as the realme X and GT Master Edition.

In this iteration, he conceptualizes the idea of having paper in your hands while holding the device. True enough, the backplate is just a white matte finish with a pattern designed to mimic a feeling of an oslo paper during an arts and crafts session. As a result, the device doesn’t have any smudges as we held on it even for a short period of time.

We’ve been talking about heft in the previous paragraphs, but need not worry as the weight is still good for long usage, even holding the device for long periods of time.

The 6.7-inch AMOLED LTPO display is good. The colors are vibrant and vivid, the contrast is great, and there are no changes in colors when viewed from any angle.

Our quick photos taken with a mobile don’t do it justice, but the 2K resolution combined with the 120Hz refresh rate offers a great amount of smoothness and sharpness to the imagery you can see with the phone. Scrolling is also fun as the phone adapts its refresh rate to your scrolling by default, but you get to adjust that in the settings menu.

Camera-wise, you’re getting three at the back with two LED flashes and two 50-megapixel lenses being your main and ultrawide lenses, respectively. The camera takes photos fast and with enough calibration that you can actually use it for point-and-shoot occasions with ease.

There’s also a 32-megapixel selfie camera that takes really good shots. Here are some first shots we took:

We’re surprised to see a phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and to be honest, the benchmarks are over the roof. We got a whopping 970,107 score on AnTuTu. Verified. That’s among the top benchmarks in AnTuTu so far, and rest assured you’ve got yourself a well-performing phone for gaming and multitasking. The vapor chamber cooling also helps disapparate the heat and keep the temperatures at acceptable levels.

The same goes for its software. This runs on realme UI 3.0 over Android 12 and it feels a lot smoother compared to its predecessor. You’ve got more customization options, a better layout, plus additional improvements under the hood that made the phone feel a lot more responsive and snappier.

That’s what we got so far with the device as we held it for a few minutes. We hope to get our hands on the device, too, but you can purchase the 12GB+256GB variant for PHP 34,990 at the realme Global Store on Shopee.
