Unboxing the package we received from Huawei Philippines reveals the laptop itself, some documentation including the warranty card, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and the 65-watt charger that also supports Huawei SuperCharge. A quick note: I tried to use a charger from my Huawei Nova 9 and it surprisingly works with the laptop, too.
The all-metal chassis is still present. It has quite a sleek and slim profile but still offers a complete set of I/O ports. At the right part, we have two USB-A ports.
The USB Type-C, 3.5mm audio, and the HDMI ports are all on the left. There’s also a light indicator should you plug the device in for charging.
Prying open the laptop is easy thanks to Inside is the full-size chiclet keyboard with the trackpad. It’s worth noting that the laptop still has the webcam at the function key row, in between F6 and F7. In turn, this makes for more room on the display, making it more bezel-less.
The power button now sits on top of the keyboard and offers a fingerprint scanner for more device security.
Looking at the back of the device, one can notice a lot of grilles for various purposes, as well as two rows of rubber feet for keeping the laptop in place when in use. The two small grilles on the sides are for audio, and they are quite the loud ones.
The longer grille is for the laptop’s exhaust, as seen with fans here in this photo. Huawei calls this the Shark Fan cooling system, which touts greater cooling efficiency compared to previous models.
Additional air vents are also placed in between the laptop body and the display, thereby keeping you away from the generated heat as you use the laptop throughout the day.
We’re already used to the 3:2 aspect ratio on the display since we also have the Huawei MateView at home that offers the same, and it’s the extra space you’ll surprisingly need for creative photo or video editing. The 2K resolution is gorgeous and presents colors really well.
More of the changes can be seen inside: there’s now a 16GB RAM configuration, an 11th-gen Intel Core i5 with Iris Xe graphics, and a 512GB internal storage capacity that sure is fast enough to use for everyday browsing, documents, or even photo editing. It’s also supercharged for the Huawei Smart Office setup by just tapping the icon on the taskbar to check other nearby Huawei devices you can connect with, and seamlessly work with them with Huawei Share.
The new Huawei Matebook 14 2022 is priced at PHP 59,999 and can be preordered online at the Huawei store with free gifts in tow worth PHP 9,589, including a Huawei Classic backpack and a Huawei Freebuds 4i. We’re actually using the laptop right now as we publish this story, so expect a full review from us in the coming days.
