Casio’s new G-SHOCK is a smartwatch powered by Google Wear

With a huge price tag to boot

Casio’s G-SHOCK is about to get the smartwatch as the Japanese brand announced a new line of watches powered by Google’s WearOS while being built with all the toughness of a G-SHOCK, including shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance.

The 1.2-inch 360 x 360 dual-layer display combines monochrome and color display features on the interface with a three-tier layout. Users can customize to suit their goals, putting multiple data points at their fingertips, easily accessible at a glance.

It is also the first G-SHOCK smartwatch to run on Wear OS by Google. As the flagship product of the sports-focused G-SQUAD line, the Casio G-SHOCK GSW-H1000 is great for use in a wide range of athletic settings—from activities like running, indoor workouts, road biking, and swimming, to more extreme pursuits like surfing and snowboarding. It can measure up to 215 activities and 24 indoor workout options.

It also has an optical sensor to measure heart rate, as well as a compass, altitude/air pressure sensor, accelerometer, gyro meter, and GPS functionality. This powerful hardware profile enables the watch to capture the data on distance, speed, and pace which is so useful for people doing physical training.

As it’s an official smartwatch, Casio also made its accompanying app, G-SHOCK MOVE, and is available on both Android and iOS platforms. You can change the screen design from hundreds of downloadable watch faces available. It’s priced at USD 699 (or roughly PHP 34,000 when converted, before taxes) and will be available at select markets in the coming weeks.
