Can a smartphone with a flagship-level camera sensor, a curved AMOLED display, IP68 rating, and 5G really cost less than PHP 13,000? TECNO says yes, and their answer is the TECNO Camon 40 Pro 5G. Equipped with the new MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip, a 144Hz screen, and a 50MP OIS main camera, this phone is targeting mobile photography fans and content creators on a budget.

We reviewed the Galaxy Black variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage, and here’s what we found after using it extensively. TECNO is trying to shake up the midrange segment with high-end camera features and an IP-rated build—things usually missing in this price tier. If the camera and display deliver as advertised, this could appeal to budget-conscious users who want more than just the basics.

TECNO Camon 40 Pro 5G: Design
The TECNO Camon 40 Pro 5G makes a strong first impression with its curved display, matte back, and symmetrical camera module. The Galaxy Black variant has a soft shimmer under light and doesn’t easily attract fingerprints. It’s light at 179 grams and just 7.29mm thick, which is impressive for a phone with a 5200mAh battery.

The in-hand feel is more in line with higher-end models, thanks to its curved front and polished edges. Button placement is ergonomic, and there’s a reassuring click to the power and volume buttons. It doesn’t feel cheap or hollow, unlike some phones in this bracket.
What’s even more impressive is its IP68 and IP69 certification, which means the phone is not only dust-tight but also protected against water immersion and high-pressure sprays—an unexpected bonus at this price point.
TECNO Camon 40 Pro 5G: Display and Audio
The 6.78-inch AMOLED panel is one of the best features of the TECNO Camon 40 Pro 5G. With a sharp Full HD+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass 7i protection, the screen is bright, vivid, and responsive. Whether you’re gaming or scrolling through TikTok, the smoothness is noticeable. Colors are rich without oversaturation, and the curved edges give it a more premium look and feel.

TECNO also added dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. Sound is well-balanced, with clear mids and highs. While bass is limited (as expected), volume is loud enough for watching videos or taking calls on speaker.
TECNO Camon 40 Pro 5G: Camera
The TECNO Camon 40 Pro 5G’s camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilization and a large 1/1.56″ sensor size. This results in sharper images, especially in challenging light. Shots in daylight look crisp with decent dynamic range. The colors lean slightly warm but remain natural.
The 8MP ultrawide lens does an okay job in good light but shows softness on the edges. It’s fine for group shots and landscapes but not meant for detail-focused use.

Photos in daylight show excellent detail and color saturation. Shadows are balanced, and highlight retention is good even under intense sunlight. The OIS helps maintain stability when shooting handheld. Close-up shots have decent natural bokeh, though depth mapping still leans on software.
The Flashsnap feature is notable. When capturing kids running around or people in motion during a market visit, the Camon 40 Pro produced noticeably sharper photos than competitors in its range. Faces remained in focus even with movement, and shutter speed was snappy.
Night photography is decent too, with Night Mode improving shadows without overly brightening the scene. OIS helps reduce blur in low-light handheld shots, which really sets this camera apart from others in its price range.
The 50MP selfie camera is also capable. Skin tones are balanced, and portraits have smooth edge detection. AI beautification is present by default but can be toned down. It also records 1080p video at 30fps, which is enough for vlogs and video calls.
Video recording on the rear camera supports 4K at 30fps. Footage looks clean in daylight and fairly stable thanks to EIS and OIS combined.
TECNO Camon 40 Pro 5G: Performance
The Dimensity 7300 is a solid performer in the midrange. Daily use, multitasking, and casual gaming are handled smoothly. Apps launch fast, animations are fluid, and background tasks rarely force reloads. The Mali-G615 GPU can handle games like Mobile Legends and Call of Duty Mobile at medium settings without hiccups.

The phone runs HiOS 15 on Android 15. This latest version is less bloated than before, with smoother transitions and better gesture handling. Features like AI Wallpaper, customizable lock screens, and an improved game mode add to usability. The OS also includes Circle to Search and Smart Panel shortcuts for easier multitasking.
Connectivity is full-featured: 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, IR blaster, GPS, and FM radio are all onboard. Dual nano-SIMs are supported, but there’s no microSD slot—256GB should be enough for most users.
TECNO Camon 40 Pro 5G: Battery and Charging
The 5200mAh battery is another strength of this device. It lasts more than a full day of regular use including camera, browsing, and social media. With light use, it can stretch into a second day.
Charging is handled by a 45W wired fast charger. It takes about 30 minutes to reach over 50% and roughly 1 hour to reach full charge. It’s not the fastest in its segment but balanced out by the large battery capacity.

It’s a great pick for mobile photographers, students, and content creators who prioritize camera quality, display, and all-day battery.
With an IP68/IP69 rating, 50MP OIS main and selfie cameras, and 5G connectivity, it also serves as a practical daily driver for users who need more than just the basics.
