nubia has unveiled the Neo 5 GT Special Edition, the latest addition to its Neo gaming smartphone lineup. Why it matters: Sustained performance has become one of the biggest challenges for gaming smartphones, particularly during extended gaming sessions. nubia is addressing this by introducing what it says is the first Liquid and Air Dual Active Cooling System in its smartphone class.

The details: The centerpiece of the nubia Neo 5 GT Special Edition is the AquaCore Cooling System, which combines active liquid cooling with an integrated cooling fan.

The liquid cooling system uses an AI server-grade coolant circulated by a piezoelectric micropump and a three-layer cooling film to move heat away from key components. The company says the transparent cooling channel also adds a distinctive gaming-inspired design element.

Complementing the liquid cooling system is an active cooling fan paired with a through-flow duct design that helps expel heat more efficiently. The smartphone also features a total heat dissipation area of 33,652 mm², integrating vapor chamber, graphite, and liquid cooling technologies.

The bigger picture: Beyond cooling, nubia has equipped the Neo 5 GT Special Edition with hardware aimed at competitive mobile gaming.

Key specifications include:

  • MediaTek Dimensity 7400 4nm processor
  • Up to 24GB Dynamic RAM (12GB physical + 12GB virtual)
  • 256GB or 512GB storage
  • 6.8-inch 1.5K AMOLED display
  • 144Hz refresh rate
  • Up to 4,500 nits local peak brightness
  • 6,210mAh dual-cell battery
  • 80W fast charging (45W PD in selected European markets)
  • Bypass Charging support

For controls, the device features 550Hz Neo Triggers 5.0, a 3049Hz instant touch sampling rate, and the Magic Touch 3.0 algorithm, which nubia says delivers touch latency below 5.5 milliseconds.

The phone also adopts a flat rear design with rounded corners and includes a 90-degree charging cable intended to make gaming while charging more comfortable.

Between the lines: AI also plays a larger role in the new gaming phone through AI Copilot Demi 2.0.

The built-in assistant includes several gaming-focused features such as:

  • Gaming Coach
  • Gaming Chatbot
  • Demi Auto-Chat

These tools are designed to provide gameplay assistance, facilitate communication, and reduce interruptions during gaming sessions.

For multimedia, the Neo 5 GT Special Edition features stereo speakers with DTS:X Ultra support and an X-axis linear vibration motor to provide more immersive audio and haptic feedback.

For gamers: Battery life is another focus of the device. The 6,210mAh battery supports Bypass Charging, allowing power to be supplied directly to the phone during gameplay to help reduce battery heat and wear.

nubia also includes a 5% Extreme Mode, which the company says can provide up to 30 additional minutes of gameplay when the battery is nearly depleted.

The Neo 5 GT Special Edition will be available in two colors:

  • Surge Black
  • Glacial Silver

Both variants come with 24GB Dynamic RAM and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.

What’s next: The nubia Neo 5 GT Special Edition will begin rolling out globally this July, starting with Southeast Asia. The company also says the device will receive up to five years of software updates as part of its long-term support commitment.

The Bottom Line: The nubia Neo 5 GT Special Edition focuses on maintaining gaming performance through its new AquaCore dual active cooling system while pairing it with a Dimensity 7400 processor, high-refresh-rate AMOLED display, gaming triggers, and AI-powered gaming tools. The combination positions the device as a feature-packed option for mobile gamers looking for extended performance without stepping into flagship pricing.
