OPPO Reno16 Series enters Southeast Asia with higher prices

As the OPPO Reno16 Series gradually rolls out across Southeast Asia, one thing is becoming clear: buyers should expect to pay more than they did for the Reno15 lineup. Prices announced in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia show increases across nearly every model, with some variants costing the equivalent of over PHP 10,000 more than their Reno15 counterparts in the Philippines.

While OPPO Philippines has yet to announce local pricing as it officially launches later this month, the regional launches provide a good indication of where the new smartphones may land when they eventually arrive in the country.

The Reno16 F, the most affordable model in the lineup, starts at the equivalent of around PHP 27,300 in Indonesia for the 8GB + 128GB variant. The same configuration costs approximately PHP 29,500 in Thailand, PHP 30,300 in Malaysia, and climbs to around PHP 35,200 in Vietnam.

Moving up to the 8GB + 256GB variant, prices range from about PHP 29,700 in Indonesia to nearly PHP 39,600 in Vietnam, showing a price spread of almost PHP 10,000 depending on the market.

The standard Reno16 follows a similar pattern. The 8GB + 256GB model is priced at around PHP 36,800 in Thailand, while Malaysia and Indonesia both sell it for roughly PHP 40,900. Vietnam once again tops the list at approximately PHP 44,600.

For buyers considering higher memory options, the Reno16 with 12GB + 256GB RAM and storage starts at around PHP 42,300 in Thailand and reaches about PHP 45,400 in Malaysia. Indonesia sits in between at roughly PHP 44,300.

At the top of the lineup, the Reno16 Pro commands flagship-level pricing. Indonesia offers the lowest converted price at around PHP 51,100, followed by Thailand at PHP 55,200 and Malaysia at PHP 56,000. Vietnam has the highest regional price at approximately PHP 61,000.

The pricing trend also highlights notable differences between Southeast Asian markets. Indonesia continues to be one of OPPO’s most competitive markets, consistently posting the lowest prices across the lineup. Vietnam, meanwhile, carries the highest converted prices for every model announced so far, while Malaysia and Thailand occupy the middle ground.

For Filipino consumers, Thailand may provide the closest indication of potential Philippine pricing. In previous generations, OPPO Philippines has often launched devices at prices that closely align with Thailand’s suggested retail prices after accounting for local taxes and promotional offers.

Looking back at the Reno15 Series in the Philippines, the difference becomes more apparent.

Compared to those launch prices, the Reno16 family appears to carry a premium of roughly PHP 3,000 to more than PHP 10,000 depending on the model and regional market. Even the Reno16 Pro’s entry-level 256GB configuration is priced similarly to or even higher than the Reno15 Pro’s larger 512GB storage option in the Philippines.

Based on current regional pricing, Philippine launch prices could reasonably fall within these ranges:

  • Reno16 F (8GB + 128GB): around PHP 27,999 to PHP 29,999
  • Reno16 F (8GB + 256GB): around PHP 30,999 to PHP 32,999
  • Reno16: around PHP 38,999 to PHP 44,999
  • Reno16 Pro: around PHP 52,999 to PHP 55,999

These figures are estimates based on Southeast Asian pricing and should not be considered official until OPPO Philippines announces local retail prices.

The higher regional pricing also reflects a broader trend affecting the smartphone industry. Over the past few years, manufacturers have faced rising costs for components such as chipsets, memory, camera sensors, batteries, and displays, alongside higher manufacturing and logistics expenses.

While brands continue to introduce new AI features and hardware improvements with each generation, these increasing production costs have also contributed to higher retail prices, particularly in the premium mid-range and flagship segments.

For the Reno16 Series, the combination of larger batteries, upgraded durability ratings, newer camera hardware on select models, and expanded AI capabilities likely contributes to its higher pricing compared to the Reno15 lineup.

Should you buy the Reno15 instead?

For many buyers, the answer is yes.

The Reno15 Series has already matured in the market and is frequently available at discounted prices through online shopping platforms, authorized retailers, and carrier promotions. If you can find a Reno15 with savings of PHP 3,000 or more, it continues to represent strong value, especially for users who primarily want a capable camera system, dependable everyday performance, and several years of software support.

Waiting for the Reno16 may still make sense if you’re looking for the latest processor, new AI-powered features, camera improvements, or simply plan to keep your next phone for four years or longer. However, those upgrades will likely come with a higher launch price.

Unless the Reno16 introduces a feature that significantly changes your daily smartphone experience, the Reno15 Series remains the smarter buy for most Filipinos today. As retailers begin clearing existing inventory ahead of the Reno16’s local launch, discounts on the Reno15 lineup could make it one of the best value premium mid-range smartphones currently available in the Philippine market.
