realme is kicking off the second half of the year with new TechLife offerings, the the biggest of which is their new realme Watch 2 with an updated design and more features in tow. The folks from realme Philippines sent us a unit to try out, and here’s what we have noticed from the get-go.

realme Watch 2 specs:

  • 1.4-inch colored display, 320×320 px, 313 PPI
  • 22mm removable wrist straps
  • 3-axis accelerometer
  • Heart rate sensor
  • Blood oxygen sensor
  • IP68 dust and water resistance
  • Compatible with iOS 11+ and Android 5.0+ via realme Link
  • 315mAh battery (up to 12 days battery life)

I’ve had the first realme Watch for some time and it’s refreshing to see that realme has packaged the second-generated watch in a more compact way, this time opting for a wider box instead of the longer ones we got last year. Opening the box reveals the watch itself all rolled up at the front, while the user guide and warranty information are all shelved up at the back part. The proprietary charger is also the same — a circular-shaped plate that has specific groves to make sure the device stays in place.

We turned on the Watch and connected it immediately to our realme Link app, where we were notified that an update is needed. We checked the design while we waited for the update to finish.

I liked the more secure, unorthodox starp we had on the first realme watch, but a classic strap isn’t that different. It feels very secure since the free loop has a grove to keep the strap in place when worn. The rubber straps are also done in a matte finish except for the part where we have the DARE TO LEAP wordmark.

The watch face part is a lot taller than the previous generation, but you’re still getting a square display which meant more room for edge navigation. One button is still the main key driver — to turn it on or off, to go back to the previous menu, or to wake the device up if you didn’t toggle its raise-to-wake feature. The glossy, shiny polycarbonate material strikes a contrast with the matte textured straps and is quite the fingerprint smudge magnet.

At the back ate the latches for the straps (should you need to replace them), as well as the heart rate and SpO2 sensors for monitoring heart rate and blood oxygen levels. The two golden, circular pins at the top are for charging your device to the plate as you’ve seen above.

The wearable doesn’t feel heavy in the wrist — I keep on forgetting that I have one unless my arms rest in my table. It’s also loaded with more on its arsenal this time, as you’re getting 90 sports modes, over a hundred watch faces via the realme Link app (like this one below), and up to 12 days of battery life.

The realme Watch 2 is set to be launched on July 6, along with other TechLife products such as the realme Buds Wireless 2 Neo and the realme Night Light, on realme’s official online channels. While we all wait for the big reveal, we’re taking this wearable as our daily watch for a full review so stay tuned.
