JAECOO Philippines’ first hybrid SUV, the J7 SHS, has earned a five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). This is the second recognition the model received this year, following its range verification by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) in February.

Why it matters: A five-star Euro NCAP rating gives Filipino buyers more confidence in the J7 SHS’ road safety performance. The rating also highlights growing competition in the local hybrid SUV market, especially as more brands push new energy vehicles into the mainstream.
The J7 SHS was tested across four areas: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian safety, and safety assist systems. It scored 81% in adult protection, with Euro NCAP noting stable performance during frontal crash tests and proper protection for knees and femurs. It also received 80% scores in the other three categories.
Euro NCAP highlighted the model’s driver-assist features, including its autonomous emergency braking, lane support system, and speed assistance system. These safety tools helped the SUV respond to other vehicles, adjust to lane departures, and provide accurate speed limit alerts.

Other features include a DMS Driver Monitoring System, 360° HD panoramic camera with under-chassis view, Bosch’s IPB intelligent braking system, and six airbags positioned around the vehicle.
The J7 SHS is powered by a Super Hybrid System (SHS), combining a 201 hp motor, a 1.5L turbocharged hybrid engine, and an 18.3 kWh battery. Drivers can switch between full electric, series hybrid, parallel hybrid, and regenerative braking modes. During the AAP range test, the SUV covered 1,488.8 km on a full tank and charge, surpassing its advertised 1,200+ km extended range. It also ran 106 km in full electric mode.
The J7 SHS made its Philippine debut at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show. It will also be presented at the OMODA and JAECOO Global Conference in Wuhu, China, on April 23.
The first units are expected to arrive in the Philippines by end of May. Pre-orders are available at OMODA and JAECOO dealerships in Pasig, Sta. Rosa, and Cebu. The J7 SHS will be offered in Premium and Comfort variants, both priced below PHP 1.7 million.
Will the JAECOO J7 SHS’s safety credentials and range make it a top choice among hybrid SUV buyers in the Philippines?
