What if your earbuds could stay comfortable for hours without blocking out the world around you? That is the idea behind the Haylou Airfree, an open-ear pair of wireless earbuds that skips the usual silicone tips in favor of a lightweight clip-on design. With directional audio technology, a secure fit, and a price point that sits lower than many open-ear competitors, the Haylou Airfree aims to make this category more accessible to everyday users. Here’s our review.

Unlike traditional in-ear earbuds that seal the ear canal, the Haylou Airfree sits outside the ear using a flexible C-shape clip. This makes it feel very different from most TWS earbuds currently on the market. It is clearly designed for users who dislike silicone ear tips or experience discomfort after long listening sessions.
What’s in the box: The retail package we got from Haylou has the earbuds, a USB A to C charging cable, and a user guide.
Design and Construction
The Haylou Airfree immediately stands out because of its open-ear clip-on design. Instead of going inside the ear canal, the earbuds attach around the outer ear using a flexible titanium and TPU bridge. Haylou says the shape follows the natural curve of the ear, and in practice, it works surprisingly well.

At only 3.8g per earbud, the Airfree barely feels noticeable during extended listening sessions. There is no pressure buildup, no ear fatigue, and no clogged sensation that some in-ear designs can cause. For users who wear earbuds throughout the day while working or walking outdoors, this becomes one of the product’s biggest strengths.
The fit is also secure enough for outdoor runs and general movement. Even during quick walks and light workouts, the earbuds stay in place without wobbling much.

The charging case is compact and practical. One of its more useful features is the Smart LED HD display on the front, which shows the battery percentage in real time. It is a small detail, but it removes the guesswork that comes with basic indicator lights.
Build quality is decent overall, although the earbuds do not carry an official high-level water resistance certification for heavy exposure. They are fine for sweat and light rain, but probably not ideal for harsher outdoor conditions.

Touch controls work reliably once you get used to the placement, though the touch-sensitive areas can take some adjustment during the first few days of use.
Audio Quality
The Haylou Airfree performs reasonably well for an open-ear product. Its 11mm titanium-coated drivers deliver clear mids and crisp highs, making vocals, podcasts, and casual music listening enjoyable.
Because the earbuds sit outside the ear canal, the sound presentation feels more natural and airy compared to traditional in-ear earbuds. This makes them particularly good for background listening during work, commuting, or outdoor activities where situational awareness matters.

Haylou also uses Directional Audio Technology 9.0, which helps direct sound toward the ears while reducing sound leakage. Nearby people will hear very little unless the volume is pushed too high.
Voice calls are another strong point. The dual microphones, combined with AI noise reduction, help isolate the speaker’s voice well during calls, especially in moderately noisy environments.
The built-in spatial audio mode adds a wider sound presentation for videos and casual media consumption, though it is more of a fun extra feature than a major upgrade to overall sound quality.

As expected from an open-ear design, bass response is the biggest compromise. Sub-bass lacks the physical punch and depth that sealed-in-ear earbuds can provide. Users who prioritize strong low-end performance for genres like EDM or hip-hop may find the presentation lighter than expected.
The lack of Active Noise Cancellation also means environmental sounds remain fully audible. In quieter areas, this is actually beneficial, but in loud public spaces like train stations or busy streets, outside noise can easily overpower the audio.
Performance, Connectivity, and App Experience
The Haylou Airfree uses Bluetooth 5.4, and connection stability is generally solid during regular use. Pairing is quick, and the earbuds maintain a stable connection within the usual operating range.
Multipoint support is a welcome addition at this price range. Being able to stay connected to both a laptop and a smartphone at the same time makes switching between work calls and personal media much more convenient.
Low-latency mode also helps reduce delay while gaming or watching videos. While it may not fully satisfy competitive mobile gamers, it performs well enough for casual gaming sessions.
The Haylou Sound app adds useful customization options such as EQ adjustments and touch control remapping. Android users currently get a more complete experience compared to iOS users, but the app remains functional overall.
Codec support is limited to SBC and AAC, which is fairly standard in this segment. However, users looking for higher-resolution wireless audio through LDAC or aptX support will not find those options here.
Battery and Charging
Battery performance is respectable for the category. The earbuds last around five hours on a single charge depending on volume levels, while the charging case extends total usage up to roughly 28 hours.

For everyday use such as work, commuting, or casual listening, this is usually enough to get through multiple days without needing to recharge the case.
Charging is done through USB Type-C, which is expected at this point. A full charge takes around 1.5 hours.
Some competing open-ear products offer longer total battery life, but the Airfree still performs adequately for typical daily use.
The Rundown
The Haylou Airfree focuses heavily on comfort and practicality rather than pure audio performance. Its lightweight open-ear design makes it ideal for users who dislike traditional in-ear earbuds or want to remain aware of their surroundings during daily activities.

It performs best as an everyday lifestyle audio device for walking, working, casual listening, and light workouts. While bass lovers and ANC users may want something more immersive, the Airfree succeeds at delivering a comfortable and accessible open-ear experience.
The Haylou Airfree is now available in the Philippines for PHP 2,499 exclusively on Shopee.
