OPPO recently held the 2021 OPPO Future Imaging Technology Launch Event where the brand has unveiled multiple imaging technologies. These focused on upgrades to sensors, modules, and algorithms.
OPPO’s next-generation RGBW sensor features a proprietary 4-in-1 pixel algorithm that boosts the sensor’s color performance and prevents color inaccuracy and moiré patterns. DTI pixel isolation also prevents sub-pixel crosstalk and improves image quality.
The sensor captures 60% more light and 35% noise reduction for low-light shots. It also makes portraits more expressive in both photo and video with skin, texture, and contrast enhancements. The new sensor will be released in OPPO products from Q4 2021.
A new 85-200mm Continuous Optical Zoom and Five-axis OIS helps in capturing clearer pictures:
- It adopts G+P (glass + plastic) lens technology with two ultra-thin, high-precision aspheric glass lenses.
- A tunnel magnetoresistance sensor (TMR sensor) allows the lenses within the camera module to move with more stability and precision.
- An upgraded guiding shaft motor increases the dynamic tilt at which the lens system can be moved, easily supporting Continuous Optical Zoom at higher magnifications.
These support Continuous Optical Zoom at equivalent focal lengths between 85mm and 200mm, giving a smooth transition within the zoom range. Meanwhile, the Five-axis OIS allows the system processor to receive movement data from the gyroscope. The data is then passed to the lens and the image sensor, which are driven by ball-bearing motors and shape memory alloys.
Images are stabilized by lens-shift OIS covering horizontal (X) and vertical (Y) shifting for small movements. While sensor-shift OIS will be utilized for large movements at the horizontal (X), vertical (Y), and rolling with the help of algorithms.
This allows a maximum stabilization angle of ±3 degrees, while the sensor can also shift with a precision of 2μm. For night-time or motion shots, OPPO’s proprietary algorithm improves stability, clarity, and color performance; increasing the vibration compensation performance by up to 65%. The OPPO Five-axis OIS will be commercially released in OPPO products from Q1 2022.
OPPO showcased its next-generation under-screen camera for future smartphones with a 400-PPI display. It uses transparent wiring and a new design that results in finer display quality. Each pixel circuit drives 1 pixel (1-to-1) in the screen and precise algorithmic compensation technology. This results in a more controlled chromaticity and brightness of the screen with a deviation of 2% and 50% screen lifespan.
A series of AI imaging algorithms were also developed including diffraction reduction, anti-condensation, HDR, and AWB to optimize the image quality of the under-screen camera. The AI diffraction reduction has been trained to control problems caused by diffraction at the light source.
